!!!!!!!!!!
Read
According to Tom Peters, the "essential idea" behind this book is to get the reader to "DO SOMETHING". He hopes that if the reader "disagrees", he or she will be "pissed off" and will "do something" about it.
I forced myself to read the first four chapters of this book. This is less like a business book and more like a magazine for teenagers. Exclamations everywhere!!! CAPITALIZED TEXT. Red text and red backgrounds that hit you in the face. Pictures, pictures and more pictures. There are pictures from advertisements, pictures of hollywood stars (Gene Hackman, Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman, etc), pictures of soldiers, and countless famous people from Queen Elizabeth I to Oprah Winfrey. And MOST ANNOYINGLY, there are pictures of the author himself. The book starts out with a full page photo of his face (this is in addition to his face on the cover). Before each of the 8 parts of the book, there is a page with 8 photos of him in a host of CHEESY POSES. And there are many more such photos splattered throughout the book. And before each chapter a page is wasted on a BIG EXCLAMATION MARK!
And when you do get past all the "audacious", "egocentric" and "absurd" parts of this book, you will realize that the content is just as disappointing.
Tom Peters takes great pride in criticizing everything under the premise of making the reader "re-imagine". He is especially critical of other authors, Jim Collins in particular. The tone with which he refers to the findings in "Built to Last"(1994) and "Good to Great"(2001) is impolite and derogatory. This is not the way a "management guru" with the most miniscule amount of class would behave. I believe the author has a complex regarding Collins, whose 2 books (mentioned above) are today more popular than the author's book of a similar format, "In Search of Excellence" (1982).
Tom Peters hopes that his new buzzword, "re-imagine", will catch on and become part of business lingo. I don't think that's going to happen. I hope people will realize that he has resorted to the advertising tricks of a cheap salesman in order to market this book.
Browse through "Re-imagine" in a bookstore to "re-infer" that it belongs in the re-cycle bin. It will give you a HEADACHE!!!!!!!!!!

Tom Peters has an amazing mind and always a fresh point of view. I highly reccomend this book! Amazon got it to me in flawless shape as well.
pointless tripe

I have a business background so someone thought I'd enjoy a "business" book as a Christmas gift. Bad idea! I've read plenty of books in this genre and this seems to cut and paste from all of them. I thought this guy was supposed to be some kind of business guru but, from what I managed to make myself read, he is struggling for new ideas. And unless you're an rabid man-hater I'd stay away from Ch. 21 altogether, sexism disguised as progressive thought.
Lots of better books out there if you want to get some idea of upcoming economic trends, just browse any well-stocked business section at a local bookstore. As for this one I managed to convince the store clerk to let me exchange it for something a little more interesting.
Wanna be Competitive- Reimagine Every thing
Read
I was introduced to Tom Peters when I was in College (10 years back). I first read his book "Seminar". Thereafter I have never missed any of his books. These books have been very instrumental in my career.
Actually Tom Peters is just an observer, he observes & tell what has gone right & what has not with reasons. His books are not a management theory (unlike Drucker), he just gives you some food for thoughts. My recommendation is that if you are reading his book, don't read it more that 4-5 pages at a time then stop-take notes-think about-how you can use it in your prospective.
The book "RE-IMAGINE" is complete TOM PETERS Encyclopedia. It has some new things & some old writing from his books Pursuit of Wow, The Project 50, The Brand You 50, The Professional Service Firm50, The Circle of Innovation. If I were to name this book I would have named it as Best of Tom Peters.
A Love-Hate Book
Read
I loved Re-imagine. Sometimes it was infuriating. Maybe the design was overdone or some ideas may be re-iterated a lot, as can be seen by the diverse reactions for the book.
But in the end I would just like to quote Machiavelli.
"It must be considered that there is nothing more difficult to carry out nor more doubtful of success nor more dangerous to handle than to initiate a new order of things; for the reformer has enemies in all those who profit by the old order, and only lukewarm defenders in all those who would profit by the new order; this lukewarmness arising partly from the incredulity of mankind who does not truly believe in anything new until they actually have experience of it."
---Machiavelli
